This paper focuses on the impact of rapid modernization on natural resources and the environment which comprises two dimensions, namely the macro or national level and the micro or local level. At the macro or national level, globalization has given impetus to growth-oriented development, which has in turn induced deforestation, a high rate of energy consumption, and wider use of hazardous chemical products without proper treatment.
