WILL: I appreciate you coming in.
SCOTT: Yeah. I am glad to be here.
WILL: Listen, Scott, you have really progressed over last few years. You're a strong junior trader. You are well-liked within the room. That's why I wanted to sit down today and talk about what we need to do to take you to that next level.
SCOTT: Thanks. I really appreciate that. Yeah, I felt for a long time now that I'm ready to transition to a senior trader a role.
WILL: I know you feel that way. And you've got a lot of excellent skills. OK. You know the system inside and out. You've built great relationships internally and externally. People enjoy working with you. I enjoy working with you. That's why I've been keeping a close eye on your work, because I want you to advance.
SCOTT: Yeah. I appreciate that. It means a lot coming from you. So have you noticed anything about my work?
WILL: Sure. Yeah. People trust you. OK. They say that you have a strong foundation in trading, and they like you. All right. I'm not sure though that they see you as an expert in your sector. And a senior trader is viewed as an expert, both by clients and colleagues. You need to be the go to source for information. Do you feel that you're viewed that way?
SCOTT: Not always. You're right that's something I have to work on. I need to become an expert in my space.
WILL: That's great. So what are you doing to become an expert?
SCOTT: Well, I'm trying to read the Wall Street Journal every day. I'm reading a few tech magazines here and there. It's just team T is such a huge space. It's hard to know where to start.
WILL: Well, maybe, the analysts can help. What do they say?
SCOTT: Well, I actually haven't talked to Helen in a couple weeks. I'll get on her calendar.
WILL: OK. Well, listen the analysts are there for you. Some of the guys on the desk are talking to them on a daily basis. What else are you doing? What books are you reading?
SCOTT: I started reading Moore's Law. It's not going to do it.
WILL: I get it. No. I mean, listen technology is a huge space. And nobody, nobody can tackle it all.
SCOTT: Totally-- totally. You know, actually, I've been thinking about maybe just focusing on one part, you know, just for a little while. Do you have any suggestions?
WILL: Well, you mentioned Helen. And she's the expert in semiconductor technologies. Why not start there?
SCOTT: Right. Yeah. That makes sense.
