At 2310 Hrs. on July 25,1956, an Italian cruise ship collided with other passenger ship Stockholm. The Andrea Doria had been scheduled to arrive New Yoke the next morning. For the 1,706 Passengers and crew o/b, it was the night of a 7-day voyage. The two ships were sailing towards each other in heavy fog, just off the coast of Nantucket. The Stockholm’s bow hit the Andrea Doria on the starboard side. Passenger cabins and decks were destroyed on impact. Fuel and Ballast tanks ruptured.
