Recently, FT-IR spectroscopy has been found to be very suitable
to detect the major chemical components of flax fiber (Zuk et al.,
2011a,b). The broad absorption band at 3400 cm−1 corresponds
to the stretching (OH) mode of the free hydroxyl groups and
those involved in the intra- and inter-molecular hydrogen bonds
O H· · ·O of the glucopyranose system. The changes in the intensity
of the 3400 cm−1 band components resulted from different
cellulose polymer conformation (Fig. 3).
