Although a review of the literature suggests that patient preferences are often dependent on generational norms, other factors, including the inability to distinguish nurses from other hospital employees, nurses’ preferences, employeemorale, and cost, complicate the dilemma of whether to institute standardized professional clinical attire. This study examined patient perception of nurse image, including but not limited to attire, as well as patient preference for how nurses should appear.
