Until science gave us the technology to took into space, people thought that the sun revolved around the earth. This was a natural assumption; they saw the sun come up in the east and go down in the west. They had no way of knowing that the earth spins on its axis also, or that it orbits the sun. The fact that the earth spins on its axis also causes problems because when the sun lights up the sky, we cannot see the stars. Aristotle was one of the more famous advocates of this theory. As a result, many people in the following centuries assumed that the earth was the center of the universe.
