It is the most popular prawn species
used for commercial farming and has been transported to many parts
of the world including South America and China (New, 2002). Recently
it has been determined that there are two separate species being
referred to as M. rosenbergii and the species that is most extensively
cultured and the subject of numerous research papers is actually M.
dacqueti. To avoid confusion, efforts are being made to retain the more
familiar name (Wower and Ng, 2007).
