Because caffeinated drinks are widely consumed among
older persons at risk of EG (e.g., 80% of US adults over the age
of 50 consume caffeine daily),39 it is important to investigate
the relationship between caffeinated product consumption
and risk of EG or exfoliation glaucoma suspect (EG/EGS) status.
We examined caffeinated product consumption relative to the
risk of EG/EGS, using prospectively and repeatedly acquired
dietary data among 78,977 women in the Nurses’ Health Study
(NHS) and 41,202 men in the Health Professionals Follow-up
Study (HPFS), who were followed for up to 28 years
