It signifies particle in ME had narrow sizedistribution. When the ME were mixed with Carbopol 940 whichhad adequately swelled in water, the appearance of Carbopol 940viscous solution became ivory white, which was in accordance withthe results obtained by Chen et al. [36]. The possible reason is thatthe dehydration of some ingredients such as surfactant and co-surfactant in ME makes Carbopol 940 dissociated from hydratedstate. The prepared hydrogels of sertconazole nitrate microemul-sion were subjected for drug content, viscosity, pH, droplet sizemeasurement studies and results are depicted in Table 2. The drugcontent in ME was within the range between 97.86 ± 0.54 and99.74 ± 0.35% and in HSM was within the variation of 100 ± 2%.The viscosity of HSMs (154.23 ± 0.5–162.52 ± 0.2 Pa s at 25◦C) wasmore than the viscosity of ME (89.0 ±0.4–356.7 ± 0.6mPa s at25◦C) which is suitable for topical application. The pH value ofmicroemulsion and HSM was 5.2–5.9 and 6.4–6.9 respectively. ThepH near to 7 indicates HSM could result less stimulation to skinthan ME. The average droplet size of ME and its gels was rangedfrom 38 .6 to 82.6 nm and 42.3 to 91.7 nm respectively. It indicatedthat the gel network of Carbopol 940 could not markedly influencethe diameter of ME droplets.
