The cross-sectional design and small sample size are limitations of this
study. The fact that no incentives were given and participation was strictly
voluntary probably contributed to a smaller sample size. It is possible that a
larger sample size would have produced more statistically significant associations
between other variables and anemia. This study cannot be generalized
to the entire population of Jamaica since it was conducted only in the parish
of Westmoreland. Future studies, however, can be conducted with a sample
that is more representative of all of the parishes to assess predictors of
anemia in pregnancy across the island.
