Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) Provincial Administration in collaboration with the Thai-Chinese Club of Korat and Chinese Shrines are preparing to organise the annual Korat Vegetarian Festival which usually falls on the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar.
This year’s festival will be celebrated for nine days and nine nights from 24 September to 2 October, during which devoted people are committed to strictly keep vegetarian diet throughout the time as a mean of making merit. It is believed that by so doing, it help clean up body and purify the mind and spirit.
Vegetarian Festival in Korat is grandly celebrated every year and there will be vegetarian food available at restaurants, food courts in department stores and side-street stalls. Throughout nine days, shops selling vegetarian food can easily be noticed by small yellow flags with the red letters.
Highlights of the Korat Vegetarian Fesival will take place on 27 September when there will be a magnificent procession starting from the statue of Yamo, parading to the 25 shrines around the city of Nakhon Ratchasima from 8:59 hrs. onwards. On 29 September from 18:00 hrs. onwards, visitors can join various merit-making activities.
Nakhon Ratchasima is Thailand’s largest province in the northeast of Thailand and can be easily reached from Bangkok with only a few-hour drive. Aside from joining the vegetarian festival, visitors are advised to many other interesting cultural, historical and natural attractions abound in this province.
