The class today proceeded as usual with K.Wanida attending while other interested parties were either not in the office or tied up with their work. Books and handouts could only be given to K.Wanida and K.Thep who were in the office (handouts given to K.Thep were meant to be further reproduced and distributed among the accounting department staff). Since K.Wanida has shown some serious interest in learning English from the first session until today's third session even though this means hard work for her to start again from scratch as applicable to all Scanwell employees so far. She posed a challenging practical question which nobody has ever asked of how to get started in obtaining " speak English skill" to which the answer given is : 1. learn enough words, 2. learn enough grammar, 3. learn enough English culture, 4. learn enough about pronunciation, 5. devote enoughstudy time ( preferably back home or some 30% of one's non-sleep time). Learning a foreign language whether it is Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, French, German or English cannot be a casual affair. Concentration or focus is needed just like obtaining a university degree day-course or evening-course orweek-end course. Since K.Wanida lives alone in BKK and does not involve herself too much with otheractivities, she should be able to focus well enough. The second book given her (the first one deals with grammar) deals with some very basic daily English conversation under various circumstances : 1. counting and time-telling (including day/month/year), 2. greetings under different times of the day and different occasions, 3. telephoning, 4. invitation and appointment, 5. visiting people including ill friends, 6. at grocery shops, 7. at hotels, 8. travels and flying overseas, 9. at tailor and dress-making shops, 10. at beautician shops, 11. at hair-do shops, 12. at shoes shops, 14. at pharmacy shops and clinics. More higher-up booksincluding proper dictionaries will be provided later at a cost.A brief explanation of the second book and the first book took up all the two hours in the class. For those who are interested to continue learning English as they should, whether in the class or outside and who wish to receive some books, please let me know by LINE/email/phone so that I can buy some more books for them.Although a new young employeee, K.Wanida seems a serious learner as she should be in view of her intention to( after her "panich navi po-vo-so course") obtain a degree in logistics from Rajapat Suan Sunantha University. Meantime, hard work is needed from her and from other serious students.Since I will be away with my family to LAX/USA 25Dec - 08Jan, there will be no classes on 27Dec, 3Jan and10Jan. See you at next classes Saturday 13Dec and 20Dec and thereafter from 17Jan on.
