Scientists tracked roughly 4,330 postmenopausal
women who were at risk for a
heart attack, stroke, or other cardiovascular
event, but who had no history of depression.
The women were given high doses of
the B vitamin folic acid (2,500 micrograms
a day), vitamin B-6 (50 milligrams a day),
and vitamin B-12 (1,000 meg a day), ora
placebo.
