3.3. Effects of chemical fungicides on isolated pathogen
Mancozeb, a widely used fungicide produced prominent zones
of inhibition at low concentration (100 lg/ml), whereas the pathogen
can tolerate a high concentration of bavistin such as 1000 lg/ml.
In course of conidial germination assay an inhibition of conidial
germinations to an extent greater that 81% was found in the presence
of mancozeb at a concentration of 100 lg/ml whereas in the
case of bavistin to an extent greater than 75% conidial germinations
were noticed even at a concentration of 1000 lg/ml (Table 1).
Despite its efficacy in controlling the pathogen the chemical fungicide
mancozeb is found to have several harmful effects on the environmental
system as well as the mammalian system (Shukla and
Arora, 2001; Paro et al., 2012).
