Dear boss, I am asking for your support for my application to the IATSS Forum program in Japan.
I know this will mean long time away from my duties as the Director and Physician for Pansilathong Hospital, but the rewards would be significant. The IATSS Forum program will provide an opportunity to improve my leadership capacity by interacting with other ASEAN participants with a field for tacking such issues and for better understanding each other through its unique motto ”thinking and learning together.”
After I’ve graduated my MD degree since 2005, I had worked in the public province hospital for one year. After that, I have moved and worked at the district hospital in rural area of Thailand until present. At present, I have two main duties. The first one, I’ve worked as a Physician. The second, I serve as the Director of the public district hospital that comes with many important tasks for the local community. As role of the director, I have to work with my team to manage the hospital system to make it run for patients who come to get a high quality medical service here. By this position, I need strong leadership for the coordinated district health system committee. The district health team takes responsibility in managing primary care service in district level. I should receive and opportunity to develop my leadership skill.
In my opinion, the leadership style I want to realize in the future that is Participative style. Participative leadership also expands the range of possibilities for the team. When leadership styles that essentially leave all the direction and decision making in the hands of one individual, it is much more difficult to see a given approach from several different angles. When the leadership style encourages others to be involved in the decision making process, a given course of action can be approached from a variety of perceptions. This can often point out strengths or weaknesses to the approach that would have gone unobserved and thus unresolved without this type of participatory brainstorming and decision making.
As I am a young leader of the local health unit, I expect that participation in this useful training program will help me open my vision and understand the management in the community of Japan that had been known as a developed country and other ASEAN countries and adapt it to my community. This program will not only improve my knowledge but also provide a change experience with other participants. Network building will be helpful in term of relationship development for future work.
