A safety section and a quality control section were added. Catfish was included as a new matrix for sanitary indicators with sample processing instructions. Buffered Peptone Water (BPW) was added as a diluent option for serial dilutions. The E. coli, coliform, and APC count methods were updated to include additional instructions for the use of commercially available dry rehydratable film and the use of controls. The estimated count procedure and the fecal coliform (E. coli) estimated count procedure sections for coliform group and Escherichia coli were removed. The estimated count procedure for Staphylococcus aureus was removed. Obsolete tests including the (presumptive) staphylococcal enterotoxin reverse passive latex agglutination test and the thermonuclease assay sections were removed. The Staphylococcus aureus method was updated with additional details added to the initial Baird Parker plating step. Instructions for processing fermented sausage samples for the Staphylococcus aureus method were removed. A new section was added for the Enterobacteriaceae count method with instructions for controls. A new section on calculations and reporting results added.
