it's very different where you turn against it.as the Goblin turned into the wind, the waves threw the little ship on to hrt side.susan lost the rope for the mainsail but John managed to catch it and fix the sail.he pulled the tiller round and the Goblin turned straight into the wind and the waves.
crash! A wave broke over the bows, and water flew over the cabin roof and onto the children in the cockpit.Roger was thrown into the bottom of the cockpit and did not even try to get up.up the Goblin came, her bows pointing to the sky, then down again, and another wave thundered over the ship.In the cockpit they were knee-deep in water.John,white-faced and desperate, fought with the tiller and tried to steer against a sea and a wind that were too strong for him.
'stop it,John!stop it!we'll have to turn round again! I can't...I can't...Oh!...Oh!...'and susan, shaken almost to pieces by the ship's new violent movement, lay across the side of the cockpit and was terribly sick again.
john tried to find the rope of the mainsail under the water in the cockpit.he found it,lost it,found it again, and then pushed with his whole body against the tiller.slowly, very slowly, the brave little Goblin turned away from the wind and back on her old coures.it seemed like a return to peace after a terrible battle.
from the cabin they heard Titty's frightened voice.there was water down there as well as in the cockpit.Roger went down to help her,and Susan looked for the pump, found it,and began pumping hard to get the water out of the boat.
