4. Conclusions
Spray drying an aqueous solution of mannitol and PVP
(mannitol:PVP: 4:1) resulted in formation of d-mannitol which
exhibited excellent tabletability and friability in comparison to aand
b-mannitol. Inclusion of PVP in the spray dried mannitol
solution positively influenced the
flowability since the resulting
agglomerates were larger.
Additionally, a coprocessing method was applied for the
production of d-mannitol in a continuous way by spray drying
aqueous solutions of mannitol and PVP and to agglomerate these
particles with paracetamol crystals in the same process. The
tabletability and friability of the resulting particles was excellent
which was attributed to the superior tabletability of d-mannitol
over a- and b-mannitol and to the application of the coprocessing
method which enabled coating of paracetamol crystals with
d-mannitol and PVP.
