In order to identify the issues affecting the management of
beaches for amenity purposes, a range of literature has been
reviewed, including a number of available beach-management
plans from both the U.K. and the rest of the world and
published research. Based on this information, it is apparent
that the types of issues relating to amenity beach management
can be broadly grouped into (1) those involving direct
interaction with the physical/natural environment and (2)
those involved with managing beach use. The following
sections examine these in more detail.
