Explicit knowledge is created and shared throughout an organization and is converted into embodied, tacit knowledge during the internalization process. Reading books, for example, can put us in contact with a vast array of explicit knowledge. However, it is rare that we are able to make that explicit knowledge our own just by reading it. It is only by reflecting on it or putting it into o=practice that we are able to connect it our own context or to the knowledge that we already possess, and grasp its essential meaning. This stage can be understood as praxis, where knowledge is applied and used in practical situations and becomes the basis for new routines. Thus, explicit knowledge, such as product concepts or manufacturing procedures, has to be actualized throuhh action, reflection, and practice so it can be internalized as knowledge of one's own.
