The manufacturer claims segregation level Form 3b. This level of segregation has been achieved differently to the methodology that would normally be adopted in Australia, where each functional module (starter, feeder etc.) would be contained in a separate sheet steel enclosure. In these MCCs, the non-conductive equipment enclosures have been considered to be “the enclosure”. Having said this, the MCCs with doors open, are not considered to meet the “finger proof” criterion. The supplier seems to acknowledge this by this by attached warning notices, advising that the entire MCC must be isolated BEFORE ANY maintenance is carried out.
In Australia Form 3b normally implies that functional modules of the MCC can be maintained while the remaining MCC panels live. This concept has not been realized for the MCCs under consideration.
