The Marlow-Crowne Social Desirability
Scale.—This scale consists of 33 true-false
items, for example, "I never hesitate to go
out of my way to help someone in trouble,"
designed to measure individual differences
in social desirability response bias (Growne
& Mariowe, 1964). High scores on tiie test
indicate that respondents are highly disposed
to present themselves in a favorable
light (i.e., are highly resistant to unfavorable
disclosures) in order to secure or maintain
the approval of others. Psychometric properties
of tiie test are described by Growne
and Marlowe (1964)
