The brick building to the right of the canal is the Wisboom pumping station, a steam-powered station constructed in 1869. It is now a museum; if you visit, you can watch a video presentation about the history of the Kinderdijk windmill area (in Dutch, with English subtitles) and view exhibits about the windmills and the pumping stations.
To the left of the Wisboom station, the slant-roofed Overwaard pumping station moves 1,500 cubic meters of water per minute. This pumping station was built in 1995.
