Budget Your Time
Schedule the time you have available for writing your essay so that you will be able to complete the work as efficiently and as comfortably as possible. You won't be able to put in your best effort if you have to rush to complete your essay without enough time to do the required research and to check over your work. Schedule time for research, organization and writing.
Organize Your Research
Write an outline listing the different areas you will need to research for your essay. It's a good idea to have different headings for the different areas in your notebook. Once you have done some research, you can go over the material you have and keep what is useful for your essay.

Organize Your Thoughts
It's a good idea to write a rough outline of your essay before you sit down to write the assignment. You can write a simple outline for your introduction, thesis statement and supporting points. You can fill in the sections for this outline in point form, or include some sentences or more complex arguments if they come to mind as you are writing your outline. You can use this outline when you begin to write your rough draft.
Rough Draft
Type a rough draft to read over and edit before printing off your final copy. Some writers prefer to print off a rough draft for editing with a pen, or to have it read over and edited by someone else before writing the final copy. You can also edit your rough draft on the computer, editing it before printing it off as your final copy.
Introductory Paragraph
When writing your first paragraph, be sure to include an introduction to your topic or question, a clear and concise thesis statement, and a very brief outline of where you intend to take the argument.
Body
The body of the essay should be divided into different paragraphs dealing with the separate supporting points or evidence of your essay. The body explains your thesis in greater detail and supports your assertion with a logical argument supported by facts and evidence.
Conclusion
The conclusion to your essay should summarize how your argument and evidence supports your thesis statement.
Proof Reading, Citations and Bibliography
Be sure to proofread your essay for any spelling mistakes, typos and grammatical errors. All research supporting your essay should be cited according to the citation and bibliographical style of your subject or class. Ask your teacher or professor which form of bibliography and citations are acceptable.
