Import Restrictions on Counterfeit and Pirated Goods
Counterfeit or pirated goods infringe IP rights such as copyrights, trademarks or designs, which are protected in many countries including European Law.
To avoid property rights violation in the course of trade, customs authorities monitor postal services, courier and freight transportation. Shipments found to contain counterfeit or pirated goods are subject to seizure, possible proceedings and destruction of the goods.
Counterfeit articles acquired for personal use can also be suspected of IP rights infringement in the course of trade, if the consigner pursues commercial objectives with the sale of such goods.
