Whereas heterogeneity in quality poses limitations to international
trade in mangoes, it can be considered as an asset
for domestic deliveries. The international supply chain
is composed of a limited number of closely interlinked
agents that are coordinated within a framework of public
and private grades and standards. The local market includes
numerous agents and outlets that maintain different standards
and practices. Local consumption of mangoes can
thus be more differentiated, depending on specific demands
according to local socio-economic and cultural standards
(Shewfelt, 2006).
