Charity must be connected with truth, and that truth has to do with the correct understanding of the human person. That truth, moreover, exists in the objective reality of nature, it is not left up to each individual to decide for himself or herself, as if, "I have my truth, and you have your truth.
Reason helps us to discern and recognize the truth, which then must be received by an act of the will. Truth is to be received, it is a gift. Charity rooted in objective truth is, as he calls it, a "grace": "Charity is love received and given. It is ‘grace'" (n. 5).
