Production of global livestock is increasing rapidly and abundantly to cater for the demand of animal protein by a
growing world’s population. An intensive growth of livestock production systems has led to major concerns about
human health and environmental issues. However, manure does not only have negative environmental issues but
also a potential source of energy and nutrients. Direct combustion can be used to process poultry litter but the
control of NOx, SOx and nano-particle emissions is challenging. Gasification is regarded as an efficient thermal
conversion process that converts low calorific value fuels such as wood, rice husk, municipal solid waste, dried
sewage sludge, poultry litter etc. to a synthesis gas for various applications. The syngas from poultry litter can be
used for heating and production of electricity to offset the use of fossil fuels
