Heremained out of Athens for 13 long years when he visited the courts of Hermeas and Mitylene in Asia Minor. He also availed this period in long travelling and studying different political institutions in different, parts of the world. In the court of Hermeas he studied decadent despotism of Persia whereas in Mitylene he studied maritime fauna. It was in 342 B.C. that he was called to Macedonia to become the tutor of young Alexandra where he influenced monarchy and deeply studied this institution. He had however to leave the place in 322 B.C., after the death of Alexander. He had some troubled time as well but boldly faced that and decided to leave for his own estate in Chalcies, where he died in same year.
