LONDON: Rwanda’s foreign minister yesterday protested Britain’s arrest of the country’s spy chief, saying the detention of Karenzi Karake at Heathorw airport was an “outrage”. “Western solidarity in demeaning Africans is unacceptable!” Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Louise Mushikiwabo said on Twitter, adding that the issuing of a European arrest warrant for Mr Karake was “preposterous”. Police detained Mr Karake, 54, the director-general of Rwanda’s national intelligence and security services, at Heathrow on Saturday. The Metropolitan Police said a London court had remanded him in custody until Thursday following his arrest on behalf of Spanish authorities “in connection with war crimes against civilians” dating back to 1994.
