The Occupational Information Network (O*NET) is a comprehensive system developed by the U.S.
Department of Labor that provides information for over 950 occupations within the U.S. economy.
This information is maintained in a comprehensive database which was developed to replace the
Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) (U.S. Department of Labor, 1991). In order to keep the
database current, the National Center for O*NET Development is involved in a continual data
collection process aimed at identifying and maintaining current information on the characteristics of
workers and jobs
