The treated seeds of all the genotypes
along with their respective controls were sown
in field in a split plot design (SPD) with three
replications at 60 x 30 cm spacing, each
consisting of 300 seeds during summer season
of 2011 for raising M1 at Vegetable Research
Station Farm, Junagadh Agricultural
University, Junagadh. M2 was raised during
kharif 2011 in a layout of compact family block
design with three replications. The seeds from
30 different plants selected at random from
each treatment in M1 generation were sown for
raising M2 generation in a plant to progeny
method. The experiment consisted of 10
treatments each having 10 families and 10
seeds per family in each replication. The total
mutants and normal plants were counted in
all the two varieties of M2 progenies to compute
the mutation frequency per 100 M2 progenies.
The morphological mutants were classified
according to the system proposed by Singh and
Singh (1998). The various classes of
morphological mutants were scored separately
for the computation of the spectrum of relative
percentages of different types of mutants.
