The percent reduction in HDI value in each mouza of a block
due to the impact of arsenic pollution were entered into the GIS
attribute table to generate the contours of percent reduction in
HDI. Percent reduction in HDI due to arsenic pollution is shown
in Figs. 8 to 13 for all the 6 blocks analyzed. The highest percent
reduction in HDI in block Langola was in the range of 20 to
25% (Fig. 8) though the areal coverage of this was negligible and
the corresponding arsenic content was in the range of 0.30 to
0.35 mg/L. Substantial amount of area fell into the percent reduction
ranges of 10 to 15% and 15 to 20%, and percent reduction in
HDI of the balance of the area fell in the range of 0 to 5%. HDI
reduction in the block Nawda ranged from 0 to 15% (Fig. 9).
