All individuals cultured in vessels A (1 individ.) and B (5 individ.)
survived at the end of the experiment, whereas in other vessels 1 (C,
D and F) to 3 (E) individuals disappeared during the culture period
(118 days) (Table 2).
In vessel A, the weight of the sea cucumber increased from 0.054 g
to 6.68 g during the 118 days. As the density increased, the mean
weight at the end of the experiment decreased and in vessel F a minimum
value of 0.94 g was found (Fig. 8, Table 2). SGR during the
118 days ranged from 4.1% (vessel A) to 2.1% (vessel F). There was
a significant effect of density on the growth of A. japonicus (one-way
ANOVA, F4,65=12.8, Pb0.001).
