Translocal approaches exhibit several commonalities with research on “grounded transnationalism.”
Although many authors do not differentiate translocalism from transnationalism,
let alone designate it as an analytical concept in its own right, we nevertheless consider that
the approach warrants consideration as an emerging research concept. On the basis of our
review of existing concepts and empirical applications, we argue that translocality has the
potential to address important issues in socio-spatial research. We conclude this review by
outlining some of these areas.
