Where the faiths intermingle
Seacon Bangkea will transform its Center Court on the first floor into a historic venue during the
“Chinese New Year Festival : China Town In Thon Buri” fair,from Wednesday until Feb 22.
The is a chance to learn about the history of the tight-knit Sino-Thai relationships in the charming
Kudi Chine Wat Prayurawongsawas Warawihan(Wat Prayoon)and Wat kalayanamitr Varamahavihan communities, where Buddhists Christians and Muslims have long lived peacefully together.
Among the highlights is a replica of Kian Un Kong shrine from Kudi Chine ,containing statues of Chinese gods and goddesses, and Buddha.They include Guan Yin,Cai Shen(the God of forture)and Tai Sui(the God of Longevity).
There will be a Chinese opera presented by Acharn Meng Por Pal,or Amphol Chroensuklarp,the founder of the Thai-Chinese Arts and Cultural Center
Ten different shows will be staged throughout the five days,twice daily,at 2 pm and 5.30pm.
Four shows will be performed in Thai,and the rest in Teochew dialect.There is no admission fee to the shows.
The fair will also feature Chinese ,Portuguese and traditional Thai dishes.
