Kruger is saying that the idea behind the genders, that men must be strong and women must admire them and be their opposite, is outdated. That these two exclusive patterns are, as she likes to say, “too binary”. They are too constricting, and no one can fit perfectly into these only existing molds for men and women. We don’t need another man that is like that, and we don’t need another woman that is like that either. This commentary contradicts the background picture, like much of her work. The viewer has to reconcile the conflicting message of the picture and the words for themselves.
