Conclusions
Sleep and wakefulness are profoundly affected by pregnancy and warrant evaluation in clinical practice.
Although some changes in sleep may be physiological, attention to the emergence of sleep disorders in this population is important.
All pregnant women should be educated about the importance of sleep and avoidance of sleep deprivation.
Sleep disorders including RLS and OSA may adversely affect maternal-fetal health.
Clinical trials are needed to assess these risks in pregnant women.
