Mahidol University has emerged as the top university in Thailand as rated by the Times Higher Education World Rankings this year, which also cemented the National University of Singapore's place as the best institution in Asia.
The results released on Wednesday showed Mahidol in a group of tertiary institutions ranging between 501 and 600, while six others were grouped in another range between 601 and 800. They were Chiang Mai University, Chulalongkorn University, Khon Kaen University, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi, Prince of Songkhla University and Suranaree University of Technology in Nakhon Ratchasima province.
Mahidol received high scores on "Industry Income", one of the indicators used to weigh the performance in the annual survey by the Times. It is defined as research income from industries per academic staff.
The survey did not give the exact position for low-ranking universities and instead placed them in groups.
