Elephant attacks two cars at Khao Yai National Park
PRACHIN BURI, Jan 12 -- A wild elephant has attacked two cars carrying tourists to visit Khao Yai National Park, officials said.
No injuries were reported but both cars were damaged.
Officials said the incidents occurred Saturday at kilometer marker number 30 on the road to Prachin Buri province and near the park office.
The traffic was heavy at the time when the incidents took place, making it difficult for park officials to help the tourists, park officials said, adding that many tourists were also taking pictures of the wild elephant as it attacked the cars.
Traffic near the scene of the incidents about seven kilometres from Heaw Narok Waterfall came to a standstill as drivers feared being attacked by other wild elephants feeding nearby.
Park officials spendt more than an hour chasing them into the forest.
Officials said they believed the elephant was probably the same pachyderm which attacked other vehicles in the past.
Two similar incidents happened to tourists since the beginning of January.
Park officials have warned motorists not to flash their high beam headlights or honk their horns at the elephants they encounter roads leading to the park because it might simply enrage the elephant. (MCOT online news)
