The FR is mainly composed of inorganic and organic flame retardants
[3,4]. Unfortunately, most FR systems have some problems
such as weak water resistance, poor compatibility with polymer
matrix, toxicity, causticity, poor thermal degradation, etc. The disadvantages
lead to a decrease in the properties of the polymer
composites, not only flame retardancy, but also some other properties.
To deal with the above problems, several methods can be
used, such as ultrafine processing, surface modification with
coupling agents and microencapsulation with water-insolublepolymers, etc [5e8]. In recent years, it was found that microencapsulation
is an effective method [9].
