Little changes can make big differences:
ReWalk Robotics’ ReWalk™ system provides users with an opportunity to expand their horizons with a new independence. Whether it is going for a walk, talking with friends and family, standing at a stove and cooking, retrieving an item from a high shelf, or getting a hug while standing up, the ReWalk has the potential to make little changes that can have a big impact in people’s lives.
Our approach aims to give persons with spinal cord injuries, such as paraplegia, an experience that is as close to natural walking as possible. The ReWalk exoskeleton suit uses a patented technology with motorized legs that power knee and hip movement. Battery-powered for all-day use, ReWalk is controlled by on-board computers and motion sensors, restoring self-initiated walking without needing tethers or switches to begin stepping. ReWalk controls movement using subtle changes in center of gravity, mimics the natural gait pattern of the legs similar to that of an able-bodied person and provides functional walking speed. A forward tilt of the upper body is sensed by the system, which triggers the first step. Repeated body shifting generates a sequence of steps, which allows natural and efficient walking. The ReWalk also sits, stands, allows turning and has the ability to climb and descend stairs*. Using crutches for support, you can walk and speak eye-to-eye with others on city streets and also navigate slopes and uneven terrain.
Learning to walk again requires specialized training and practice. To do this, we are working closely with rehabilitation centers throughout Europe, Israel and the United States which can train potential users in a controlled environment. While training, users not only gain the institutional benefits of increased exercise, they also can consider or prepare for acquiring a personal system for everyday use.
