Our volunteers usually teach two to four lessons per day. You will mostly carry out lessons on your own, sometimes working with a local teacher. Resources are limited, so all you may have is a black- or whiteboard, any local props you can find, as well as the main resource – you!
We have a range of projects in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Nepal. You could be working in a large town school, a rural village or a temple school. You can use your free time to take part in daily life with the children. Sports, cooking and other out-of-school activities are a great way to immerse yourself in a new culture and practice English with your students.
How you teach English with us
Openmind Projects encourages teaching English through activity-based learning. We teach using real-life situations that are relevant and interesting to students where new knowledge can be applied quickly.
During your training, you will develop lesson ideas and practice in a classroom environment before you start your project. Lesson plans are included in your handbook and we have a range of resources at our Training Center. We will also put you in touch with previous volunteers at your project for advice on lessons and activities.
Apply and we'll suggest the best English Teaching project for you in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia or Nepal.
