Successfully cultivating such diversity is difficult because individuals may interact with others as they do within their own cultuers. A study of nationally diverse company teams found that some nationalities competed with other team members while others cooperated, some awaited precise directions while others took self-initiative,and some expectes to divide tasks while others sought a team solution to each task. Another study found that language differences inhibited a common understanding of team roles, priorities,and sentiments. The more successful teams worked to understand each other's cultures before dealing with the tasks at hand.
