2. Explain the procedure to the patient and wash your hands
3. Place the patient in a comfortable position and set the environment ready for nursing care
4. Clean the thermometer
5. Check thermometer level < 35 OC , check if patient’s armpit is dry.
6. Place the thermometer under patient armpit for 5-10 minutes, ask the patient to hold it tightly
7. Place your index and third finger on the radial pulse for 1 min.
8. Continue placing your fingers at the same position then count the respiration rate (keep your eyes on the patient’s chest wall)
9. Take the thermometer out of the patient’s armpit, clean it with a cotton ball /a napkin then read the mercury level at your eye level
10. Report the TPR results (The results should not be greater or lesser than 2 points when compared to the instructor’s measurement.
