2/17/15: According to Mirror UK, 50 Shades director Sam Taylor-Johnson has threatened to quit the movie trilogy due to differences with the book's author, EL James. A inside source told The Sun, "Sam won't be back for the Fifty Shades sequels. She wants out and Universal knows that's the right decision." Taylor-Johnson had previously opened up on her creative differences with author EL James during the 50 Shades filming, citing the two fought a lot throughout the filming process which made things a challenge. Reports of Sam Taylor-Johnson's directorial role in the next two franchise films have not yet been confirmed or denied.
2/16/15: This weekend's Valentine's Day debut of 50 Shades of Grey broke several records at the box office—making it a huge hit in theaters. The film became the highest-grossing Presidents Day holiday opener of all time and is ranking among the biggest R-rated debuts in history. In the three day weekend debut, 50 Shades earned a total of $81.7 million, breaking the holiday's previous record-holder, the 2010 debut of the romantic comedy "Valentine's Day," which earned $56.3 million in its first weekend. Further, the film became the second-biggest earner and debut in February history behind "The Passion of the Christ.
