Step 8: Preparing the Bridal Bed
Towards the end of the evening the nuptial bed must be prepared in readiness for their Bride and Groom. This is carried out by an elder couple, known to the Bride and Groom, who have remained married for many years. This fact is significant, as it represents the longevity of the newlywed’s marriage.
After making the bed, the elder couple will prepare a number of special items to be placed on the bed. Each of these items are chosen to again represent a long and happy marriage.
One big brass tray
– A mortar as a symbol of steadily love
– A cane as a symbol of long life
– A a green squash as a symbol of happy and peaceful married life
– A silver bag and gold bag cantains beans, seasmi seeds and baking powder as a symbol of prosperity
– A bowl of rain water as a symbol of harmony
– A white cat doll (traditionally the real old cat was used) as a symbol of liking to stay at home
– A white chicken as a symbol early rise
