3.6 Fixing
1. Pipes to be welded shall be fixed with the use of jigs, clamps, bridges, rods or direct tack welding, so as to be accurate with respect to their dimensions and directions specified.
2. Root spaces shall be checked by using spacers to confirm that their dimensions are accurately maintained.
3. Tack welding shall also be done by the qualified welders.
4. Welding electrodes to be used for tack welding shall be the same brand as those to be used for the actual welding.
5. Surfaces after bridges used as tacking pieces are removed shall be finished by grinding and checked by visual or specified non-destructive examination to be free from any harmful defects.
6. Materials for bridges to be used as tacking pieces to be connected with base metals shall be the same materials or equivalent of base metals.
7. The materials for the rods or bars to be used for rod method shall be the same as the cores of covered electrodes, or base metals.
