Singapore Coins and Notes Museum
The rare collection of currencies on display here tells Singapore’s story through the money it has used over the years.
Singapore’s reputation as one of the world’s premier financial centres is well known. What better way to explore the city's history than through the coins and notes that have been used as currency here for over a century?
The Singapore Coins and Notes Museum is space dedicated to showcasing rare and historical coins and notes – including a Harry Potter coin! - as well as other items used for barter trade.
Located in a traditional shophouse in Chinatown, a series of small but unique exhibits take you through the history of money used in this part of the world, with a focus on Singapore from its colonial days right up to the advanced polymer notes used today.
Look closely and you’ll witness the unfolding of the country’s nation building efforts in the different currencies that have been issued over the years. On view are historical paper notes such as the Orchid Series introduced in 1967 and the Portrait Series launched in 1999.
Interactive displays and hands-on areas teach you about the different metals that are used to make coins. You can even try minting your own coin to take home as a souvenir.
Money may be a serious business, but a trip to this museum will make it something far more enjoyable.
