The equipment is intended for separation and puri-fication of various mixtures of substances, based on
chromatographic effect. Application field is not only for
food and biotechnological purposes, but also for use in
chemical and pharmaceutical productions as well. Plant
capacity enables not only experimental activities, but
also production of small amounts of special substances.
SMB-chromatographic plant is available for research
and for pedagogic purposes at the Institute of Chemical
Technology Prague, Czech Republic (a low-pressure
demo valve for presentation of SMB-function is for the
disposal). The function of the plant was verified by separation of mixtures of saccharides, KCl, betaine and
sugar–alcohol (Houska et al., 2000; Sarka et al., 2001).
Results approved possibility of application of
counter-current chromatography in described processes
and provided basic data for further research and de-velopment for industrial use.
A large database was obtained during a measurement
on the continuous SMB unit. This database will be
profoundly analysed within the scope of the research
project of the Institute of Chemical Technology in
Prague.
